Autumn in Finnish taiga

Tour details

In the north of Finland, autumn colors appear earlier than in entral Europe. The taiga then takes on a variety of colors: yellow, orange and red, creating a beautiful scenery for the photographed animals. During the trip, we will explore the picturesque regions of the Oulanka National Park and here we hope to have close encounters with Golden Eagles. In search of Wolves, Bears and Wolverines, we will go near the border with Russia. We will spend most days in specially prepared permanent hides. We will devote one day to a scenic tour of the area and photographing birds at the feeders. If the conditions allow, we will also try to photograph northern lights in one of the evenings.

 

Expected species of birds and mammals: Wolf, Brown Bear, Wolverine, Reindeer, Golden Eagle, Siberian Jay, Brambling, Sparrowhawk etc.

Day 1 – flight to Kuusamo or Oulu, transfer to the hotel, check-in, dinner

Day 2 – full day session in the Golden Eagle hide (ca. 8h)

Day 3 – full day session in the Golden Eagle hide (ca. 8h)

Day 4 - autumn landscapes of Finnish taiga and small forest birds at feeders, (car trip, walks, no hides); afternoon in a bear hide close to Kuusamo,

Day 5 – transfer to Kuhmo (270km, 3,5h), afternoon session in bear/wolf/wolverine hide (ca. 4h)

Day 6 - morning free time, afternoon session in bear/wolf/wolverine hide (ca. 4h)

Day 7 – breakfast, check-out, transfer to Kajaani or Oulu airport, flights.

 

Note! Both the itinerary and the final date of the tour depend very much on flights! Be prepared for some small changes.
