Hortobagy National Park, located in the Hungarian Pusta, is a place known for the largest autumn gatherings of cranes in the world. The number of cranes living in this area can reach up to 150,000 individuals at a time! The morning departure of birds to feeding grounds or the evening return to roosting sites (mainly at fish ponds) are unique natural spectacles. During the trip, we will mainly use comfortable, permanent hides near the cranes' roosting places and also hides near bathing places. Both will be equipped with mirror glass. We will also photograph arrivals and departures of cranes from their roosting sites without hiding. The success of the trip is very much dependent on natural and weather conditions. Back-up topics will include: feeding cranes in fields (stalking), birds at watering pools, bearded tits and long-eared owls.
