We will explore mountain and high-mountain areas.
Possible inconveniences
The main target of this phototour will be wildlife inhabiting high mountains, especially alpine ibex. This species was almost completely exterminated in the 19th century as a result of hunting and poaching. Only about 100 individuals survived in the region of what is now the Gran Paradiso National Park, which we will explore. After protection, the population was rebuilt and ibex was reintroduced to the regions of the Alps where they once lived. In addition to ibex, we hope for close encounters with marmots and chamois. With a bit of luck, you may also be able to photograph some alpine birds, such as alpine chough, snow finch, ptarmigan or the majestic bearded vulture. During the trip we will stalk wildlife, without using hides. We will travel by car on mountain roads (getting even to 2600 m a.s.l.) and go on light, physically undemanding hiking trips. Ibex are relatively easily accessible and do not care much about human presence. The most important thing is to know where to find them, and Nicola - an excellent Italian guide and nature photographer - will help us with this.
Additional photographic topics for those interested include: alpine orchids, mountain amphibians and reptiles (vipers!), as well as butterflies and other insects.
