Musk oxen in Autumn, Norway

Tour details

Autumn in Norway is a unique time when nature paints the landscapes with hues of gold and red. It's also perfect time to embark on a photography trip, capturing the majestic musk oxen in their natural habitat. These remarkable animals, survivors since the Ice Age, are a symbol of Norway's rugged nature and are relatively easy photographic subjects.

During two to three days, accompanied by a local photographer, we'll hike at a leisurely pace across the Norwegian plateaus in search of oxen. Each day, we'll cover a maximum of 10-14 km (6-9 miles) in slightly hilly terrain, often off-path. Once we've found the animals, we'll spend as much time with them as necessary. Oxen aren't shy animals, and photographing them is a bit like photographing bison. However, oxen are much more dangerous, so maintaining a safe distance is crucial. We'll spend the entire day in the field – from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

We'll also spend one day exploring the area, photographing the captivating, colorful autumn forest and tundra landscapes. At one of the stops, we plan to photograph Siberian jays. There's also a chance to spot moose.

We won't be using hides during the trip. We'll be covering quite a few kilometers on foot, carrying photo equipment and enough food for a day, so at least average physical fitness is required.
